A Glimpse into my Life..

Bookends

He that loves a book will never want a faithful friend, a wholesome counselor, a cheerful companion,an effectual comforter. By study, by reading by thinking, one may innocently divert and pleasantly entertain himself, as in all weathers, as in all fortunes.”

Since childhood reading for me was limited to school books (that too to get good grades in exams winking smileys) and local magzines only. The time kept flying and the little angel of my house {that’s me confused smileys} got married and i moved to USA with my husband to live among strangers leaving all my friends and relatives behind in India….

To keep myself busy  i started reading  “Memoirs of a Geisha” by Arthur Golden. This beautifully written novel is a story about an innocent Japanese peasant girl who belonged to a very poor family and is forced to become a geisha. Her parents sold her to the geishahood. She is soft spoken, well-mannered and admired by all. The story is mainly about the life style and struggles of the geishas before and after the World War II.

The language of this novel was so simple, informal and involving that i couldn’t resist myself finishing the whole book  in 3 days.

Then i started reading “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K Rowling. This completely changed my mind about books & authors. I realized that if the novels were written in a simple and clear language then they can be interesting and easygoing. No wonder later on i read the whole series of Harry Potter which was my biggest accomplishment…. {though i have many others but this is something i never expected from myself.party smileys. All my friends who know me since childhood can expalin it in better words. forum smileys) In this way my journey of reading books started and  i developed a special bond with books which is blooming day by day.

Some of my favorite authors are: J.K. Rowling, Jane Auston, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ayn Rand, Kurt Vonnegut, John Steinback and so on….

My journey is not confined to only fiction novels but i also  enjoy reading business, cooking & fashion magazines.  Online reading has become an essential part of my life and i am a kind of addicted to it. Some of favorite websites that  i visit  religiously are as follows:

    Lessons from German

Germany is one of the major industrial nation but still there people are trying to be eco-friendly and are working their butts off to make the atmosphere pollution-free and healthy. As a result, the total green house gas emission between 1990 and 2005 has reduced to 18% whereas in the same period, in USA it has went upto 16%.
The secret behind German’s success is less about innovation and more about implementation. For example, in the parliament buildings, electricity and heat are provided by the biofuel generators in the basement. The excess of heat is then stored underground to cool the buildings again in summers.
The government charges eco-tax on fuel that discourages petroleum use. Also other taxes and subsidies enforces German’s to work hard on waste reduction and recycling and to retrofit their homes with solar panels.
